NSK's Peterlee plant, located on England's east coast, manufactures bearing products used in automobiles.
Global Warming Countermeasures
From fiscal 2008, the plant introduced an automatic control system for boilers, air compressors, and other machinery. This allows machinery operation to be finely controlled as appropriate to the usage environment.
The plant is also switching to LED and other highly efficient lighting technology, and in FY09 successfully reduced CO2 output by 800 tons (14%).
Waste Reduction and Recycling

- Products are delivered to customers in reusable boxes.
- Waste such as cardboard boxes, paper waste, aluminum cans, plastics, wood, light metals etc. are thoroughly separated.
Contributing to the Local Community
The plant is working with local industry groups to participate in community events on a regular basis (approximately once per month).
School Teaching Visits
Every year, employees visit local schools to hold practical lessons for students, fostering their interest in engineering and helping them consider their future career path.
Supporting Industry Fairs
The Peterlee plant provides support to local industry fairs, and participates in events together with suppliers.
